About this camp

The Community College of Philadelphia Jr. STEM Academy's STEAM Summer Camp offers middle school students an immersive, hands-on experience blending science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Students will collaborate to bring a full production of "The Wiz" to life, both on stage and behind the scenes. The Coding/Costume Design track specifically merges technology and theater by teaching students to design and 3D print custom props while programming LED lights in costumes to respond to human interaction and movement. Participants learn CAD design, additive manufacturing, and basic coding skills to create interactive elements that enhance the musical's atmosphere, such as glowing ruby slippers and responsive costume elements. This module demonstrates how modern technology can elevate traditional theater and exposes students to career possibilities at the intersection of technology and creative entertainment.
