About this camp

The Girls Who Code Virtual Summer Immersion Program (SIP) is a free, two-week online course designed for high school girls and non-binary students in grades 9-11. Participants will learn foundational computer science skills, with a focus on game design using p5.js, a JavaScript library for creative coding. The curriculum covers elements of game design, the iterative design process, and UX design basics. Students will create interactive avatars, choose-your-own-adventure games, and collection-style games, culminating in a game jam where they design their own game around a specific prompt. The program also provides insights into the tech industry through live virtual classes sponsored by leading companies like MetLife, Bank of America, and Accenture. Students will engage in partner-sponsored events, collaborate with classmates, and receive career inspiration and mentorship from women in tech. The program aims to empower students with the skills and confidence to pursue computer science-related fields in college and beyond.

What a typical day looks like

A typical day includes guided coding instruction with the cohort in the morning, followed by project work in small teams with a Teaching Assistant in the afternoon. Students also attend partner-sponsored events, collaborate in sisterhood activities, and participate in web-based coding and final projects.
